Photoshop and it's impact on weird and unusual photos

If you know me, you know I love to take pictures.
This past Saturday whist traveling though weird northwestern NJ, I noticed an unusual headstone in a Moravian cemetary in beautiful Hope NJ.
"Dick We Love You" was somebodies loving tribute to Dick.
This was a photo-op not to be missed, so I did a u-turn and headed back to grab a photo.
A few days later, I posted the photo on my fotolog page, and showed it to about 10 people.
About 8 out of 10 of my friends swore that my photo was "photoshopped" and that there's no way it could be real.
Granted, if one takes a casual look at the photo the area around the text looks kinda messy, but it's actually dirt, probably from a lawn mower or rain.
My point is this...if we didn't have a photoshop, and if the vast majority of us weren't aware of photoshopping, would people take my photo for what it is and simply believe me?
I guess it makes me a bit sad that technology has lessened the temporary suspension of disbelief. If you don't know what that means, look up that phrase on google. It's a film reference.
